Some people are sensitive to molds. For these people, exposure to molds can cause symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing, or skin irritation. Some people, such as those with serious allergies to molds, may have more severe reactions. Severe reactions may occur among workers exposed to large amounts of molds in occupational settings, such as farmers working around moldy hay. Severe reactions may include fever and shortness of breath. Some people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may develop mold infections in their lungs.

Remediation of environmental fungi (mold cleaning)

Before you think you can eliminate all molds from your home, it is important to remember that the fungi are present in all indoor environments and are important ecologically.

In order to clean efficiently, some questions must be asked:

How did the infestation begin?
Molds require food and water. While these factors exist, they still exist, even after cleaning.
Where was the infestation?
Do not forget that many cases of mold occurancs within the premises and are not always visible. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to smells of mold in your home. Depending on the porosity of the material, the mold can be installed more or less superficially.

The less porous the material, the easier it is for cleaning (plastic surfaces are easier to clean than walls). Before cleaning, if the area is large, prefer to hire a specialized company in cleaning mold and cleaning mildew.

The key to mold control is moisture control. It is important to dry water damaged areas and items within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth. If mold is a problem in your home, clean up the mold and get rid of the excess water or moisture. Fix leaky plumbing or other sources of water. Wash mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water, and dry completely. Absorbent materials (such as ceiling tiles & carpet) that become moldy may have to be replaced.

For small areas, use water and disinfectant (no ammonia!). After this, use a chlorine solution (1 cup and a half to one gallon of water) and dry. Mold produces spores that can be released into the air and eventually increase the problem of infestation.

Therefore, before cleaning, it is important to wet the mold, so that the spores are not released. Very porous materials should be discarded, because the mold is able to penetrate deeply, carpets should be avoided and upholstered furniture should be cleaned with a vacuum efficiently.

Do not forget to use gloves and mask when cleaning. If present paper mold, if possible should be discarded or must take a photocopy and discard the original.
